Description
Levetiracetam Injection is available with the brand name “EPISLIT” and is used to treat seizures (fits) associated with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a continuous disease of the brain in which the patients experience multiple seizures or convulsions. It is used for the epilepsy form where the fits are restricted to half of the brain but could extend to larger regions of both regions of the brain.
Levetiracetam Injection consists of Levetiracetam, which acts by reducing the ability of abnormal electrical impulses in the brain to cause seizures. It assists in shielding specific areas of the brain where there is uncontrolled activity and prevents the transmission of signals that lead to seizures. It can minimize instances of seizures but is not capable of eradicating epilepsy.
Medical Benefits
- This medicine has Levetiracetam as one of its ingredients, which can be used alone or with other medicines to treat epilepsy symptoms. This is done by reducing the rate of the signals that originate in the head and lead to episodes of seizures.
- It also works by shutting selective areas of the brain that are active and inhibits the signals allowing seizure to spread widely.
- It prevents the occurrence of seizures although it cannot be used to cure epilepsy.
